Life Comes From It is a grantmaking circle that supports the leadership of people of color in

restorative justice, transformative justice, and indigenous peacemaking. Life Comes From It

makes small and mid-size grants to organizations that offer community-based approaches to

addressing violence and repairing harm. Our focus is on investing in leaders of color committed

to movement-building work rooted in lived experience and deep relationship. Life Comes From

It is administered by The Ahimsa Collective . ( https://www.ahimsacollective.net ). The Ahimsa

Collective works to address harm in ways that foster wholeness for everyone.

Position Overview

The program manager will work with The Ahimsa Collective to manage the grantmaking,

reporting, and relationship building with funders, grantees, and allies for Life Comes From It.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage 40–60 small grants to community organizations totalling $1 million dollars.

  • Manage 22 larger grants totalling $5 million dollars.

  • Build relationships with leaders in transformative justice, restorative justice, and indigenous peacemaking.

  • Build and maintain relationships with foundations and donors contributing to Life Comes From It.

  • Develop creative ideas to support the growth of Life Comes From It and deepen the network and movement building of those doing restorative justice, transformative justice and indigenous peacemaking.

  • Develop a creative evaluation process to track and report on the success of the fund.

  • Participate and present at philanthropic conferences, webinars, and discussions; build relationships with new philanthropic organizations or funder groups.

  • Help coordinate the Life Comes From It Advisory Circle and their activities and contribute to grantmaking decisions with the Advisory Circle.

  • Manage grant reporting to various foundations and donors.

  • Manage and update the Life Comes From it website.

  • Manage community inquiries to and outreach for Life Comes From It.

  • Participate in Ahimsa Collective staff meetings, core family meetings, and other events.

  • Reports to and works closely with the Executive Director of The Ahimsa Collective to sustain, and grow the Life Comes From It.

Qualifications

  • Relationship-building skills, passion for creating deep community connections.

  • 2-5 years experience in philanthropy, grantmaking, or grants management.

  • Experience managing budgets.

  • Experience conceptualizing and building evaluation projects.

  • Passion for movement building for restorative justice, transformative justice, and indigneous peacemaking.

  • A solid understanding of the many environmental, social, and historical conditions that impact communities of color, and a commitment to support communities of color in their own agency and leadership.

  • Strong critical thinking skills and a strong ability to track multiple grantees.

  • Ability to manage, track, and complete workload independently. Self motivated, self paced, and self driven.

  • Capacity to self reflect, grow, forgive oneself, work with a team, and work through conflict.

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.

  • Ability to attend conferences or events.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position.

  • Starting salary is $70,000–$75,000 depending on experience.

  • Benefits include health coverage, retirement benefits, paid sick leave, vacation and holidays.
